Assignment
Design a smart object for a target group within the segment 55, which meets specific needs for care and welfare in the broadest sense within that group. Design your smart object from real and promising human insights from the target group, and suitable to the identity of the Philips brand.
Concept
The goal of the smart object is to offer a structured and varied schedule to retired and/ or single elderly. The target group has no fixed schedule, as they have known for years. They find it hard to get out of bed and begin to dilute social contacts. Therefore, every day should be a new experience, with unknown areas and activities to be discovered. The smart object lets the user have a pleasant awakening experience, and makes him curious towards a new day. Ease of use is a priority with simple but effective user interaction.
Realisation
On the bedside table stands a device. This device awakens the user with natural sounds, and video material projected on the wall. After awakening, different pictures appear on the bedroom wall, where one can browse through using hand gestures. The user selects an image that arouses his curiosity. Behind every photo lies an activity that can easily be added to an agenda. The activities are updated daily so that they remain relevant and varied. The user can then choose how they want to travel, with possible scenic routes. When out of bed, the user can take a bracelet of the device. The same interface shows up on the bracelet, so new activities or a route planner can be consulted. After an adventurous day, the user's activities are rated and one goes to sleep to experience a new day tomorrow
